e-Residency
Estonia is the first country in the world to offer e-Residency. An e-resident is a foreigner to whom Estonia has provided the opportunity to create a digital identity and has issued a digital identity card – e-resident’s digital ID.
e-Residency offers foreign citizens secure access to Estonian e- services. With an e-resident ID card, you can digitally sign documents and enter all portals and information systems that recognize an Estonian ID card.
An e-resident can establish a company in Estonia online and actively participate in running it while residing in another country. e-Residency also simplifies paperwork for entrepreneurs who have already invested in Estonia and are setting up a company there.
For entrepreneurs registered outside the European Union, e-Residency provides a convenient opportunity to set up a company in Estonia and thus operate in the European Union.
e-Residency does not provide tax residency or grant permission to reside in or enter Estonia or the European Union. e-Resident’s digital ID is neither an identity document nor a travel document, and there is no photo on it.
